“Humans have a strong history of surviving such calamities. Still we went to the verge of extinction. My team and I were working on a theory in reason for human extinction. I would like your opinion on that. Want to hear about that?” asked Abraham.

“Ya Sure…!”

“Among all the living species in earth, which of the species is superior according to you sid?”

“Of course humans” replied Siddharth.

“Thank god, you didn’t replied as Cow.” Chuckled and continued. “But why do you think, humans are supreme?”

Siddharth thought for a moment and said, “Because of so called 6^th sense. The sense of reasoning, thinking etc.”

“What would you think is different from other animals that makes you think / reason?”

“It is the brain. Yes, our brain makes us supreme creatures in the earth,” replied Siddharth.

“Then tell me one thing. If I put you and one lion, both in an island together, then who will win?”

“Mmmm… I think the lion,” replied Siddharth to this intriguing question.

“Right. But will the result be the same if I put 10 humans and 10 lions in an island?”

While Siddharth was thinking, Abraham continued, “It will change right? Few of you can divert the lions; few of you can search for tools and weapons something like that you can manage. Other animals cannot do that.  

Therefore, only better brain does not make human superior. It is what you can do with your brain. Meaning, the collective behavior, planning and teaming up are some great traits, which helped humans to survive through lot of extreme situations”

“Okay. I get it. But still how did humans end up at the door of extinction?”

“Our theory is simple. Humans started loving themselves a lot. Hence the outburst of hatred towards others. In psychologically we called it as Narcissism. That is the underlying reason in all the worst catastrophes that led to the extinction of race.”

“How come? Does the 3^rd world war came or what?”

“Not necessary for such big wars. Small disasters, which humans could normally come over got out of hands due to Narcissism.”

“What is Narcissism? I don’t understand this,” asked confused Siddharth.

“I’ll give your own example. When we dug out your genetic data, we also researched your virtual history. Means the history we maintain from your social media updates, your blog posts, etc.

In that research we can see, during a time of crisis when the whole world is fighting an epidemic virus, you boasted about how your religion follows vegetarianism to stay away from viruses. You also wrote that the religions encouraging eating Non-vegetarianism has to be blamed for the virus epidemic. Why do you think you wrote that post?” asked Abraham.

Siddharth felt accused, so started to retaliate, “See, you should be appreciating me now. I shared the truth. Nevertheless, our religion and belief does not make us hate others. Our religion preaches “Vasudeva Kudumbakam” which means treat the whole world as if your family. That is the ideology of our religious belief. Then how can you accuse us being the reason for human extinction.”

Abraham calmed him down, “Relax Siddharth. I am just asking, why did you wrote that post? Surely, it was not to promote vegetarianism. Then it must be only to boast that the religion you follow is great. Right? This feel of self-pride is what we call it as a trait of Narcissism.

Siddharth is terrified now. Replied with an anger, “Before accusing us, you should know what they did to us. They were the ones laughing at us. Therefore, I have to express the greatness of my religion. What is wrong in that?”

“Who said wrong? I just gave you an example for Narcissism. By the way who are you mentioning as ‘They’ who laughed at your religion?”

“The followers of other religions. I don’t want to name them”

“Okay. Siddharth, I do not know what their religion taught them. I will ask if I encounter someone from those religions. However, it was your religion, which taught you “Vasudeva Kudumbakam” right? What happened to that? When people are dying, do you feel is it okay to laugh at them and boast about your religion?”

“Now also, you are trying to blame our religion only? “

“Listen to me Siddharth; I am not supposed to make pose my moral values on any of my subject. That is against my work ethics. Therefore, I am not blaming you. Especially not your religion. I am pointing out the reason. Which is the hatred you developed, because of your sense of self-pride.

Because you wanted to show good about yourself, about the religion you follow, you demonstrated Narcissism, which spread a sense of hatred around. Such is indeed culturing narcissism among whom you are accusing also.”

“As per your theory, ‘religion’ is the cause of human extinction. Right?”

“No. You are getting it wrong again Siddharth. What we are saying is the Hatred, Narcissism, Lack of Empathy, failing to love your fellow humans. These traits are not restricted to religious people. Even many atheists display much narcissistic traits. As you want to demonstrate your belief is better, they want to demonstrate their belief (Atheism) is better. Since they started to hate those who believe in god.”

“In simple words, can I mention this as ego?”

“There is a difference there. An egocentric person also believes they are the center of attraction. But a narcissistic person gets pleasure by admiring themselves or their belief or their country or their caste also some times”

“What is the problem in admiring oneself or their country / belief / caste is great?”

“Good question Siddharth. When you admire yourself as great, you are automatically degrading others. Remember the example of Lion vs Humans. Humans can survive only due to their intelligence and collective behavior. Humans have to stay together to survive. This sense of self pride, narcissism hatred does not help in survival”

Siddharth laughed and replied, “I think we forgot about survival. Until this virus attach, we were so confident that our survival would never undergo a challenge. So we didn’t concentrated on the need of collective behavior.”

“A small correction there. Humans believed nothing else could destroy them other than fellow humans. That is why the hatred towards fellow humans. That is the reason all the governments during your period, spent more on military than health care”.

Siddharth gave a convinced laugh and asked, “But, even if I tell this to anyone that ‘Love all your fellow humans’ many of them won’t listen to me. The will think, I am trying to show myself as a better person by saying this.”

“Of course Siddharth, they will not listen to you. That is why; you cannot ask or preach someone to love fellow humans. You can only inspire them to do so.
How can you inspire? By living according to your words. Live your life loving all the fellow humans, irrespective of their country, belief or their caste. You will be inspiring many to do so.”

Siddharth agreed and told “But now it is too late for me. I’m already dead and all this discussion is of no use”

Abraham’s voice was fading while saying, “No, it’s never too late Siddharth”

And silence prevailed for a brief time.

A distant voice was calling “Siddharth. Mr. Siddharth?”

Siddharth could see some bright light in front. The blurred vision got clear when he saw a person in white coat was asking him “Mr. Siddharth. How are you feeling now? Are you able to hear me?”

Siddharth was able to signal him with his thumbs up. However, mentally confused about what is going on Siddharth asked, “Am I still alive?”

After a loud laugh, the person in white coat answered, “Of course, Mr. Siddharth you are perfectly alright now. We told you this is not so dangerous. Your second test report also came negative. After 2 days you will be discharged. Still strictly advised to socially isolate yourself for 2 more weeks.”

Siddharth sighed, “Uff. For so long I felt I was dead”

The person replied, “You must be hallucinating. Must be because of your drugs. Relax Mr. Siddharth”
